About Rick's Arctic Cat Stator
Rick's Motorsport Electrics has been producing high quality OEM style charging system electrical stators for Arctic Cat snowmobiles for over 30 years. A snowmobile charging system is more complicated that a typical 3 phase street bike charging system. These stators can be more difficult to test and diagnose than a street bike's stator due to their complexity. However, what the stator is actually doing is the same as ever: a permanent magnet is rotating around a coil of wire to induce Alternating Current. You will find we are selling our stator for over $300 less than the OEM Arctic Cat stator.
Why the Arctic Cat Snowmobile Stator is Important
Many of the Arctic Cat snowmobiles that we provide stators for are run off AC systems, meaning they do not come equipped with a battery and the electrical power for the vehicle is derived directly from the stator. Rick's stator 24-001 is divided up into 4 separate circuits. Each AC output of the stator is responsible for a certain area of operation for the snowmobile. It is always good to check the stator if you develop a problem in any such area. For instance, if the fuel pump isn't working, check the circuit of the stator responsible for operating it before purchasing a whole new fuel pump.
Testing/Diagnosing Your Arctic Cat Snowmobile Stator
For example, a stator for a 1999 ZR600 EFI (our part number 24-001) would give you the following connectors:
In this case, the stator is divided up into four segments with different wires creating the coils, which will drastically change the AC output of the stator. Because of this be sure to test each circuit individually if trying to diagnose whether a stator is faulty. Continuing our 1999 ZR600 EFI example, it could be tested with the following resistance values:
- ›Green-Brown (low-end ignition source coil): 500 ohms +/- 15%
- ›Green-Black (high-end ignition source coil): 45 ohms +/- 15%
- ›Orange-Orange (fuel pump): 2.2 ohms +/- 15%
- ›Blue-Blue (fuel injectors): 22 ohms +/- 15%
- ›Yellow-Yellow (lighting): .2-1.0 ohms
- ›All open to ground
Additional Tips for your Arctic Cat Snowmobile Stator
- ›3-phase systems found on most street bikes. Make sure you read your service manual and have the specs available to test the stator before replacing it; simply guessing at it can often do more harm than good.
- ›Snowmobiles, like any off road vehicle, can be tough on the vehicle's electrical systems due to the environments they're run in. Make sure all connections are clean and always remove any debris that is in the cover when replacing the stator.
- ›Make sure the flywheel is clean and undamaged. Always remember that induction requires both the magnet and the wire.
- ›All new Arctic Cat Snowmobile Stators come with a one year replacement warranty.
- ›All rebuilt Arctic Cat Snowmobile Stators require a core exchange and come with a one year replacement warranty .
- ›Call us at 603-329-9901 or contact us to inquire about a custom rebuild on your old Arctic Cat Snowmobile stator.
- ›*Please note that any piece listed as “20-custom” requires you to send your core to us. That is a custom stator rebuild job and we will need your old stator part to rebuild it.
- ›We back our Arctic Cat Snowmobile Stators with a one year warranty. Rick's Motorsport Electrics can test your stator if you send it to us prior to replacing or rebuilding it. Item is bike specific, may vary from image
